On April 22nd, 2021, we received another EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) approval for a Ph.D. Candidate in the Field of Computer Engineering (Approval Notice).

General Field: Computer Engineering

Position at the Time of Case Filing: Ph.D. Candidate

Country of Origin: Iraq

State of Residence at the Time of Filing: Florida

Approval Notice Date: April 22nd, 2021

Processing Time: 10 months, 15 days

Case Summary:

With an M.Sc. in computer engineering, our client, a Ph.D. candidate from Iraq exhibited all the abilities to further his research in the same field. When he contacted North America Immigration Law Group to help him file an NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition, we began evaluating his affluent academic and research background on developing algorithm-based logic encryption techniques to produce highly secure hardware devices with little overhead using CMOS and emerging devices, which is of great importance because it focuses on improving system security so that computers remain robust against a variety of attacks, and the sensitive information of both individuals and industries are preserved. Thus, his research seems to be relevant to protecting industries and individuals from the consequences of cyber-attacks. While preparing his petition, we put the following crucial details to make his case a success:

  • We noted the 4 peer-reviewed journal articles (3 of them first-authored) and 3 conference papers (all of them first-authored), which accumulated a total of 40 citations. This implies the widespread actual implementation of his work in the field, which will continue to impact the national and worldwide scientific communities by providing a foundation for further developments in computer engineering. Besides, he has completed 10 peer reviews, proving that he is a computer engineer who is highly trusted by his peers. It is at least partly incumbent upon a critic to assure the integrity and quality of the research that is published in a given field. Therefore, the fact that he is routinely invited to serve as a reviewer confirms his insights and opinions, which are of great significance to his peers.
  • In the line of support, we also specified that his work has also been supported by the Florida Center for Cybersecurity. The organization awards “competitive” grants to “projects that align with industry needs and have significant potential to attract additional external funding, therefore, demonstrating the significance and national importance of his research in the field.
  • Additionally, we added five recommendation letters collected by other recognized researchers, confirming that his research is critical because it responds to current, real-world needs. One of his recommenders stated the below-mentioned:

“With the developments of [client’s] work, he has demonstrated himself to be a computer engineer with remarkable insight and knowledge who produces cutting-edge results. Attacks on network security are on the rise, and as such, there will be a continual need for exactly the type of systems that he is designing. His work does not just represent heightened security but it is also more cost-effective to design and to operate, making his work increasingly valuable in our present economy. Considering the numerous companies that use overseas companies to fabricate electronic devices, the need for his continued research is clear, and he has proven the worth of his research to the United States abundantly.”

Yet once again, USCIS was satisfied with our personalized petition package validating our client’s cutting-edge research, enhancing network security. We were successful in proving that our client and his research are highly valuable to the interests of the United States. Moreover, the good news is that USCIS granted his NIW petition approval without any RFE. We are delighted with the arrival of our client’s I-140 approval, and we would like to thank him a lot for choosing and trusting our law firm with his NIW case.
