In this case, the client that we had the pleasure of working with was a Postdoctoral Fellow in California in the field of Materials Science and Engineering. Her specialized research has focused on what can be called a “bottom-up” strategy of materials design and fabrication: the spontaneous assembly of building blocks into complicated functional materials. Her work had resulted in 13 peer-reviewed scientific articles and 14 presentations at US universities and national and international conferences. At the time that her case was filed, her publications had been cited at least 1,065 times by researchers around the world, serving as apparent and objective evidence of her major influence and impact on the field of endeavor, in addition to her sustained international acclaim. She had also conducted 33 manuscript reviews for at least 14 distinctive, internationally circulated journals. Her superior level of expertise was confirmed in the following quote from an independent recommender, “[Client] is one of the most accomplished young scientists in her field of Materials Science research, and that the cessation of her research would certainly result in detrimental effects …As a great scientist in this area of endeavor, it is critical to the health of the field that [client] be permitted to continue her research in the United States.” It was our goal to prove that our client qualified for classification as an Alien of Extraordinary Ability given that she sought to remain in the United States to continue work in the area of Materials Science, and that her continued research would substantially and prospectively benefit the United States.
