Case Summary:
North America Immigration Law Group was hired to file an EB-2 NIW (National Interest Waiver) petition for an assistant professor from Japan. We assessed her academic background and proposed research work in the field of cancer biology. We verified that she held a Ph.D. in medical science and wants to continue her work using next-generation sequencing to identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer. Her research work in the field is of great importance because it directly addresses one of the world’s biggest public health challenges. Cancer survival rates largely depend on the clinical stage at which the disease is diagnosed. Thus, her development of biomarkers that enable the early detection and diagnosis of various cancer types serves to lower the number of cancer deaths.
On top of that, we added the 1875 citations accumulated from 33 peer-reviewed journal articles (3 of them first-authored and 1 of them co-first-authored), 1 book chapter, and 1 patent she published, influencing her peers and colleagues. We also observed that her research has been supported by funding from leading agencies, demonstrating the recognized value and importance of her work. This funding includes grants from the NIH. The NIH is one of the world’s foremost medical research institutions and the primary government organization responsible for biomedical and public health research in the United States.
We supported her built case by including four recommendation letters that she obtained from her fellow experts in the field. We attached all the testimonies and submitted them to the USCIS, validating that our client is a substantial resource to the United States. One of the recommenders stated:
“Given the magnitude of these diseases, the continuous allocation of funds to cancer pathology and prevention is a priority for the United States, and [client] will certainly remain a vital part of these efforts with the proper support.”
USCIS was successfully convinced that our client’s experience, and expertise in her field, the significance of her contributions, and her past record of success position her well to continue to advance her proposed endeavor of identifying biomarkers and therapeutic targets for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer here in the U.S. Her EB-2 NIW petition got approved, and our team would like to congratulate her with pleasure on this significant milestone.
